The detainee Mohammed Khalil suffers from difficult situations due to his solitary confinement

The Commission of Detainees Affairs stated in a report issued today that the detainee Mohammed Khalil, 39, is suffering from bad health conditions due to isolating him for a long time.

The Commission stated that he has been isolated since more than 15 years, and he is currently held at Romonim prison alone in a cell with surveillance cameras.

The long solitary confinement affected him and caused a deterioration in his health condition. The Commission confirmed that the decision of extending his isolation get renewed automatically.

The leader detainee Kareem Younis is free today after spending 4 decades in prison.
 
He left the banner of detainees deanship to his cousin Maher Younis, leaving 4700 detainees waiting their freedom.
 
We receive today a hero who sacrificed himself to defend his cause, where he was arrested while being in university in 1983,under the charge of the affiliation to Fatah Movement, weapon possession and killing an Israeli soldier.
 
The court of Lod sentenced him to execution by hanging, and then adjusted the sentence to life imprisonment, which was specified later to 40 years.
 
Over the last years, the Israeli authorities refused to release him as with all detainees who were arrested before the Oslo Accord, in spite of many exchange bargains.
 
Despite the obstacles he faced in prison, he completed his education in prison, and became a supervisor on the education process for detainees.
 
He released two books during his detention, the first one "the political reality in Israel" in 1990, and " the ideological conflict and settlement" in 1993.
 
He was elected as a member of the Central Committee of Fatah Movement in 2017.
 
He was deprived of bidding farewell to his beloved ones, where his father died in 2013 and his mother died in 2022.

 

The martyrdom of the detainee Naser Abu Hmaid due to the crime of medical ignorance

The Commission of Detainees' Affairs announced the martyrdom of the leader Naser Abu Hmaid, 50, from Amaari Camp/ Ramallah, at Assaf Harofeh Hospital, due to the policy of deliberate medical ignorance pursued by the prison service against sick detainees.
The Israeli authorities transferred Abu Hmaid from Ramla prison to Assaf Harofeh hospital after the deterioration of his health condition.
The Commission of Detainees' Affairs warned earlier if the martyrdom of Abu Hmaid at any moment.
It is worthy to mention that his health condition was getting worse since August 2021, where he started to suffer from pain in his chest , and he had a surgery to remove the tumour, and then he got transferred to Ashkelon prison. Then, he started chemotherapy, but the prisons service was delaying his treatment.
It must be stated that Naser Abu Hmaid was sentenced to (7) life imprisonment in addition to (50) years. He was arrested for the first time in the First Intifada in 1987 for 4 months, and then for two years. He got released and rearrested in 1990, and sentenced to life imprisonment and was released under negotiations.
He was rearrested later and sentenced to life imprisonment.
The head of the Commission of Detainees' Affairs, Qadri Abu Baker, holds the Israeli authorities responsible for the martyrdom of the detainee Naser Abu Hmaid, and he called on the world and international community to stop the Israeli massacre against Palestinian detainees.

 

Persistent suffering for sick detainees in Israeli prisons and deliberate medical ignorance

The Commission of Detainees' Affairs revealed,in a report issued today, the health conditions of many detainees in Naqab prison, after the visitation of the advocate Fadi Obaidat to the prison.

A case in point is the detainee Ahmad Wahdan, 24, from Qalandia refugee camp, who suffers from difficult health conditions due to a car accident before his arrest, which caused a limited disability.

He stopped treatment after his detention which worsened his health condition. Another case in point is the detainee Raed Rayan, 29, from Jerusalem, who suffers from a bacterial infection in the stomach, and nerves problems which creates a state of imbalance. He got the infection after going through a hunger strike, protesting against his administrative detention.

The Last but not least case in point is the detainee Obaidan Samara, 37, from Salfeet who has hearing impairment in the left ear and hypertension which lead to fainting. The administration of prisons refused to conduct the appropriate medical tests for him.

Detainees' institutions: The occupation authorities arrested 7000 Palestinians in 2022

( The Commission of Detainees' Affairs, The Palestinian Society Prisoner's Club, Addameer Association for Human Rights, and Wadi Hilweh Information Center) pointed out, in the joint annual report, that 2022 was the bloodiest year full of crimes and violations.

The report showed that there are a lot of changes across arrest campaigns implemented by the Israeli forces, which were basically connected to the escalation of struggle against the occupation.

The Israeli occupation forces arrested (7000) Palestinian people, including Jerusalem and Gaza Strip, where this was the highest rate of arrests in comparison with last year, especially in the West Bank. Last year, arrest cases in the West Bank and Jerusalem were (6000) cases, including (2000) arrests in the lands occupied in 1984.

(882) minors have been detained in 2022, in addition to (172) women and (2409) administrative detention orders. There are (40) injured persons who got arrested in 2022,including children.

Arrests increased on April 2022, with (1228) cases, and May and October 2022 with (690) cases. With regard to the number of arrests in Palestinian cities, Jerusalem had the highest number with (3000) cases, and (106) cases in Gaza Strip, including (64) Fishermen.

(600) orders of house custody have been issued, the majority of them are from Jerusalem. There are currently ( 4700) detainees in Israeli prisons, distributed to (23) prisons and detention centres, including (29) women in Damoun prison, (150) minors and (850) administrative detainees, including (7) minors and (2) women.

Moreover, there are (330) detainees who spent more than 20 years in prison, (25) of them are imprisoned before the Oslo Accord, such as the detainees Kareem Younis and Maher Younis, who were imprisoned since 1983. Furthermore, there are (552) detainees who are sentenced to life imprisonment, the highest of which goes for the detainee Abdullah Barghouthi, with (67) life sentences.

With regard to the martyrs of the Captive Movement, the number has increased to (233) martyrs by 2022, the last of whom was the detainee Naser Abu Hmaid. In terms of withholding remains, the martyrs who's remains are withheld risen to 11.

Regarding the sick detainees, there are more than (600) detainees who suffer from different diseases, including (24) detainees who have cancer. As for solitary confinement, (70) detainees got isolated throughout this year, and (40) of them are still isolated.

Moreover, there are (5) members of the Legislative Council imprisoned in Israeli prisons, (2) of them are under the administrative detention, and (15) journalists, including (5) under the administrative detention.

Occupation authorities isolate the detainee Salahat at Jelboa prison in difficult conditions

The prison service holds the the detainee Yaser Zaid Salahat, 22, from Jenin at the cells of Jelboa prison in terrible conditions.

The lawyer of the Commission, Shiren Eraqi, demonstrated the details of his detention and point out that he's isolated in awful circumstances, where the prisons service deliberately transferred him every three months to different solitary confinement.

The lawyer stated that she had waited one hour to allow visiting him, and when he came to the visit he was handcuffed, under the pretext that he constitutes a threat to the security of the state.

The Commission pointed out that after the operation of Jelboa tunnel, the standards and the criteria have changed a lot, and since then, the prisons administration did not stop to take revenge from detainees and imposed punitive measures against them.

Visiting Nafaha prison by the minister of internal security is part of the extremist fascist program of the Israeli government

The Commission of Detainees' Affairs stated that the visit of the minister of internal security, Ben-Gvir, to Nafaha prison is just a part of the program of their extremist government.

The Commission confirmed that the visit came to market this program, which also incites on executing Palestinian detainees and commit more crimes,besides to physical and psychological abuse against them.

However, the Commission stated that the unity, adherence and power of detainees will surprise Ben-Gvir and his fascist government, where the abusive measures will be confronted inside the prisons with firmness, challenge and patience.

The Commission called on human rights organisations specialised in detainees affairs and Palestinian people, and international organisations to protect the Palestinian detainees and save their rights and lives and work hard in order to release them. In addition, the Commission called to deter Netanyaho and Ben-Gvir to stop their violations against detainees.

The occupation authorities arrested (490) Palestinians on November 2022, including (76) minors and (12) women. The highest rate of arrests goes for Hebron, followed by Jerusalem, Ramallah, Jenin and Nablus.

Detainees' institutions and human rights organisations ( The Commission of Detainees' Affairs, the Palestinian Society Prisoner's Club, Addameer Association and Wadi Hilweh Information centre) pointed out that there are currently (4700) detainees in Israeli prisons, including (34) women, (150) minors and (835) administrative detainees including (3) women and (4) minors.

The highest rate of arrests on November 2022 was in Hebron with (135) cases, followed by Jerusalem with (123) cases, and Ramallah with (52) .

(242) administrative detention orders have been issued on November 2022, including (120) new orders and (122) renewal orders.
