The Head of the Palestinian Commission of Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs, Raed Abu Al-Hummos, held the Israeli occupation authorities and all their agencies fully responsible for the life of Palestinian physician Dr. Mazen Al-Rantisi, who is being held in Ofer Prison.

Abu Al-Hummos stated: "The testimonies conveyed by the lawyer who recently visited Dr. Al-Rantisi expose a reality that strips the world of its moral and humanitarian values. It is inconceivable that such silence persists in the face of this suffering. A man is being punished simply for his ethical and humanitarian principles, and for his deep commitment to supporting his people by providing medical care and treatment at symbolic consultation fees. For this, he has been imprisoned in Israeli occupation prisons."

He added: "I call upon doctors around the world, the global health sector, all relevant professional unions and associations, and the World Health Organization to organize a global solidarity stand in support of Dr. Al-Rantisi, his fellow physicians, and all imprisoned activists of our people held in Israeli prisons. Let them raise their voices and deliver a humanitarian message declaring that enough is enough, enough of injustice and enough of this systematic terror."

The recent visit to Dr. Al-Rantisi exposed the violations committed against him and other detainees in Ofer Prison. He has been deprived of his prescribed medication, and all his requests to see a physician have been denied, with the only medical examination consisting of having his pulse checked. He has lost a significant amount of weight due to the poor-quality food provided in insufficient quantities, which he described as unfit for human consumption. He has also been forced to walk while bent over with his hands shackled, subjected to humiliation and verbal abuse, while detainees are compelled to kneel four times a day during headcounts.

The prison cells are severely overcrowded, housing at least ten detainees despite containing only six beds. Cell raids are frequent and involve physical assaults and the use of tear gas. Dr. Al-Rantisi has been wearing the same clothes since his arrest, with no access to cleaning supplies, while insects and mold are widespread throughout the prison.

It is worth noting that Palestinian physician Dr. Mazen Al-Rantisi, widely known as the "Doctor of the Poor," was arrested after Israeli forces raided his home in Al-Tireh neighborhood of Ramallah at dawn on June 22, 2026.
