*Abu Al-Hummos: "I call on the International Community to fulfill its responsibilities toward Palestinian prisoners held in Israeli Prisons"*

The Head of the Commission of Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs, Raed Abu Al-Hummos, called on Monday afternoon upon the international community, in all its institutions and bodies, to assume its responsibilities toward Palestinian male and female prisoners held in Israeli prisons and detention centers, who, he said, are being subjected to the harshest retaliatory policies at the hands of prison authorities that have turned these men and women into daily targets for hatred and racism.

Marking the National and International Day in Solidarity with Palestinian Prisoners in Israeli prisons, Abu Al-Hummos stressed the urgent need to break what he described as the "shameful silence" that has effectively given Israeli authorities a green light to intensify abuses against Palestinian prisoners, inflicting every form of harm upon them. He stated that these violations have evolved into systematic policies and legal measures that institutionalize what he described as an ongoing and escalating crime.

He expressed deep disappointment over what he viewed as the failure of international human rights and humanitarian organizations to respond adequately to the scale of violations being documented daily. He referred to allegations of killings, sexual abuse, beatings, starvation, mistreatment, humiliation, and the deprivation of basic human and humanitarian rights, stressing that such circumstances should have prompted a far stronger international human rights response.

Moreover, he urged the international community to act with courage and uphold its humanitarian, moral, and legal obligations by gaining access to Israeli prisons and detention facilities to assess conditions firsthand, hear prisoners' testimonies, document violations at their source, and publicly acknowledge what he described as unprecedented crimes committed inside Israeli detention facilities.

It is worth noting that the National and International Day in Solidarity with Palestinian Prisoners, observed annually on 3 August, was established in 2024 following dialogue and coordination among Palestinian prisoner advocacy organizations and national factions, which agreed to designate the date as a national and international day to support Palestinian prisoners and advocate for their rights.

This year's commemoration was organized in partnership with the Revolutionary Council of the Fatah Movement and was attended by national and political figures, prisoner advocacy organizations, families of prisoners, and large numbers of Palestinians.
