Constant suffering of sick detainees in Ramla prison, in addition to deprivation of treatment and medication

September 1, 2024

The Commission of Detainees’ Affairs stated that detainees held in the so-called Al- Ramla prison clinic are suffering from difficult health conditions, in the light of deliberate medical neglect and deprivation of treatment and medicine.

The Commission cited two cases for detainees who suffer from difficult conditions in the clinic, as they are exposed to the policy of slow killing. For instance, detainee Ibrahim Naanish from Tulkarem, who was arrested after being injured in an explosion by the Israeli army. He had injuries in the abdomen and back, and underwent a surgery in which part of his intestines have been removed. Fragments still exist in his body, which made sores in his back and foot, and he moves using a wheelchair.

With regard to detainee Muhammad Kdairat from Hebron, he suffers from cancer in the lymph nodes since 2009. He had a surgery to implant a marrow in 5/2/2024, and needs biological therapy and special medication. However, the IPS did not provide him any treatment. He was transferred to Ofer prison, despite his serious health condition.

The Commission warned of the international failure towards Palestinian detainees, especially sick ones, and stressed on the necessity of fast intervention to oblige Israel to be committed to the international laws and conventions related to detainees.
It is worth mentioning that the number of sick detainees has exceeded 800, including cases of cancer, in addition to hundreds of injured detainees who suffer from torture since October 7.
