The Israeli occupation authorities pursue holding 86 women in its prisons

August 6, 2024

The Commission of Detainees’ Affairs stated in a report issued today that the Israeli occupation authorities are still holding 86 Palestinian women, all of them are detained in Damoun prison, except for 2 detainees held in Almaskoubya detention center.

The lawyer of the commission managed to visit both detainees Hadeel Shatara,32, from Ramallah, who is detained since two months and sentenced to six months of administrative detention, and Salwa Hamdan, 45, from Bethlehem, detained since 4 months and still under custody.

The commission emphasized that the general conditions of women detainees are still very difficult, where deliberate measures are practiced to undermine them , without taking into account their privacy.

The commission confirmed that detainees have suffered from respiratory problems in
the past few days, due to spraying insecticide, which caused bad smells that affected their health conditions, as they spend the most of the day inside the rooms.
The Commission emphasized that the health and living conditions of women detainees in Damoun prison are still the same, where they are subjected to sanctions, lack of clothes, water and food. They also suffer from the high temperature and humidity, in addition to the lack of daily basic needs, where these measures are used as a means of torture and deprivation.
