*Fares: Britain should take a clear position on the Israeli aggression against Palestinian people and detainees*

April 4, 2024

The Head of the Commission of Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs, Qaddura Fares, called on the British Government to take a real position on the massive Israeli aggression against Palestinians, especially on the ferocious war in Gaza and the fascist attacks against male and female detainees in Israeli prisons.

This call came during a meeting with the Head of the Political Team in the British Consulate, Mr. Chris Barker, where Qaddura urged him to convey a message to his state that the massacres and violations committed against detainees are considered a retaliatory reaction to the incidents of October7, and there is no justification for this collective punishment.

Fares stated that we need an international intervention by an influential state to oblige Israel to stop the war in adhere to the Security Council’s resolution on cease fire. We as Palestinians believe that Britain is able to take actions in this matter, because of its international status and solid relations with Isreal.

Fares said : “ Britain holds extra responsibility towards the incidents in Palestine, being the main reason behind occupying the Palestinian territories by Israel through Balfour Declaration. Today we live in the most appropriate chance that enables Britain to atone for its sin and support giving the Palestinians the right of self determination in accordance with the resolutions of the international legitimacy “.

Fares denounced the ignorance of the global call of ceasefire by governments, people and even Israeli people, and confirmed that Israel does not respect international laws and agreements and does not abide by the resolutions of United Nations. Rather, Israel implemented a massive detention campaign and practiced torture and assault against Palestinian detainees, through a series of fascist laws.

Fares pointed out that detainees’ achievements in past decades, regarding food, water, clothing, medical care and the nature of cells , became meaningless after October 7, as detainees are currently deprived of their basic rights and became victims of cold, starvation and the hatred of jailers.
