Statement issued by Detainees’ Institutions on the conditions of the detainee Walid Daqqa as an example of hundreds of sick and injured detainees in Israeli prisons,
in the light of the increasing risks on their lives due to torture crimes committed against them November 17, 2023 Detainees’ Institutions stated that the Israeli Prison Service had transferred the detainee Walid Daqqa, 62, who has cancer in the bone marrow, from the clinic of Alramla prison to Jelboa prison, which is the most prison to witness torture and assaults against detainees. Detainees’ Institutions confirmed that these risks and fears on his fate duplicate and increase day by day, especially in the light of preventing lawyers visits to prisons, which makes it very difficult for legal staffs to know the exact health conditions of Daqqa and hundreds of sick detainees. It is worth mentioning that Daqqa, detained since 38 years, is suffering from poor health structure and needs special food that suits his condition. He is currently suffering from starvation, such as many sick detainees in Israeli prisons, where the IPS decreased the quantity of food, which affects him and other detainees directly. In this context, Detainees’ Institutions confirmed that Daqqa and hundreds of sick and injured detainees, who faced the crime of slow killing since decades, are suffering from duplicated restrictions on medical care. It is also worthy to mention that some of sick detainees were subjected to torture and assault, in the light of the mass aggression and the collective punishments carried out against them unprecedentedly since 40 days. Detainees’ Institutions call upon the International Committee of the Red Cross to revise its role and take real steps to visit the detainee Walid Daqqa and all sick detainees in Israeli prisons, to make sure they are taking the appropriate medical treatment before it is too late. Detainees’ Institutions also call upon all the free people around the world, who supported Daqqa and detainees in Israeli prisons , and refused the genocide taking place in Gaza, to continue raising our voices until they attain their freedom and the right of self determination.
