The Israeli Prison Service abuses minor detainees as a tool of revenge

The Commission of Detainees’ Affairs revealed in a report issued today the details of restrictions and punishments imposed against minors at Damoun prison since the beginning of war on Gaza , aiming at taking revenge from detainees.

The Commission stated that the IPS imposed a series of sanctions against minors, without taking into consideration their young age and physiological conditions. Besides, they have been isolated from the outside world and prevented them from using the phone, deprived them of family and lawyers visit and confiscated all electrical appliances.

Moreover, they emptied rooms from tables, chairs, food items and closed the canteen, as well as they tended to provide just two meals at 11:00 am and 5:00 pm, and destroyed the kitchen to prevent detainees from preparing meals.

Furthermore, the chief of the prison informed the detainees that they canceled the recognition of sections’ representatives, where each detainee is responsible for himself, which gives the prisons’ administration the permission to impose unsanctioned punishments against detainees.

The Commission stated that the Israeli authorities tended to escalate beat and torture during arrest and interrogation, where several minor detainees have been subjected to intensive beat and long hours of interrogation as well as threats to arrest family members in order to force them confess guilt.
