Marking the 9th memorial of their rearrest

Abu Baker: we call upon Germany and Egypt to intervene to release the rearrested detainees of Shalit bargain

The head of the Commission of Detainees' Affairs, Qadri Abu Baker, called upon Germany and Egypt to intervene immediately to release the detainees of Shalit bargain in 2011, who got rearrested in 2014, in a campaign included 70 of them.

Abu Baker hoped from Germany and Egypt, being the sponsors of this bargain, to reopen this file with the Israeli government  and release the 47 detainees who are still detained, such as Nael Barghouthi, who spent 44 years in prison.

He also confirmed that this demand is linked to their relationship with the bargain and its international and regional status. He stated that it is time to force Israel to respect what has been agreed on in 2011, which guaranteed releasing the Israeli soldier Jelaad Shalit.

Abu Baker stated that this bargain was guaranteed by an official and international sponsorship represented in Germany and Egypt, and today we are on the threshold of the 9th memorial of the rearresting campaign, we hope from the Egyptian leadership to raise the issue again and to discuss it with the relevant parties.

Abu Baker added "we pay tribute to all detainees who got rearrested, and we call upon all Palestinians and the human rights organisations, unions and Islamic and national factions to bear the national responsibility towards them and to activate their cause at all levels".

It is worthy to mention that the bargain was made on October 18, 2011, and they agreed on releasing the Israeli soldier Jelaad Shalit, handing him over to the Egyptian authorities in exchange of releasing 1027 Palestinian detainees, including 477 who were sentenced to life imprisonment and 550 sick, children, elderly and women, except for the detainee Lina Jarbouni.
It is also worth mentioning that 200 detainees from the West Bank have been deported to Gaza Strip.
