Persistence in the policy of escalation and deprivation against detainees in occupation prisons

August 7, 2024

The Commission of Detainees’ Affairs stated that 9000 detainees are currently held in the Israeli occupation prisons, facing unprecedented abusive and vindictive measures since months, and subjected to all forms of torture and systematic violence that has turned their lives into hell.

The Commission documented, through lawyers’ visits to Itzion and Megiddo prisons, several practices and criminal breaches implemented against detainees, in an attempt to destroy detainees’ morales, which violates all international agreements and conventions.

The Commission pointed out that sanctions against detainees held in Itzion and Megiddo prisoners, applied to all prisons, are represented in the closure of sections in all prisons, confiscation of electrical appliances, water and power cut off, lack of blankets and clothes, poor food in quantity and quality. Moreover, the IPS intended to cancel lawyers’ visits under the claim of the presence of a state of emergency.
Detainees complained about storming their sections, the high temperature and lack of fans. All these measures created difficult conditions for detainees, as they are held in overcrowded rooms and do not have clean supplies. Furthermore, they are not allowed to bathe on a regular basis, which led to the spread of dermatologic diseases.

The Commission called on international human rights organizations to take their necessary role, in the light of the escalation in crimes against detainees in Israeli prisons.
