Fascist practices in Ofer prison leads detainees to prefer death over life

The lawyer of the commission confirmed, after a visit to Ofer prison on July 24, 2024, that the administration of prison pursues its fierce campaign against detainees since last October, and invented new measures to crack down on detainees.
In this context, we present the following information:
1. There are 7 attempts of suicide due to the bad detention conditions, the brutality of jailers, and targeting them by the policy of starvation and medical neglect
2. detainees are exposed to intense beat during arrest and in custody, especially if they are late or do not wake up on time (4:00 am).
3. one of the detainees had burns during taking shower, due to the extreme hot water. He did not receive medical care which forced him to use toothpaste on the burns. It is worth mentioning that the administration of prison controls the temperature of water remotely.
4. detainee Amro Abu Khalil suffers from cancer and is receiving chemotherapy. His treatment was canceled and he was subjected to intense beat and returned to prison.
5. detainee Basheer Zaghloul Qasem Khatib, 38, from Birzeit/ Ramallah, was exposed to harsh beat during arrest. He lost 12 kgs since his detention on February 18, 2023.
6. rooms of the canteen, laundry and counting were turned into cells
7. 11 detainees are held in the same room, 5 of them sleep on the ground and the rest sleep on iron beds. They lack the minimum life elements of clothes, blankets and food.

(320) detainees in Jelboa prison are living in deadly conditions
The Commission of Detainees’ Affairs stated in report issued today that (320) detainees are living in hell inside Jelboa prison, due to the Israeli policies carried out after October, that turned prisons into slaughterhouses in which detainees are exposed to beating and torture, and led to many executions against detainees of Gaza, the West Bank and the lands occupied in 1948. The legal unit in the commission visited detainee ( R. Y) from the city of Tulkarem, who is sentenced to life imprisonment, where the detainee cited: “they invaded the prison on October 8 in a brutal and provocative manner, tied our hands to the back and started to beat us on each part of our bodies. They confiscated our personal possessions and did not take into consideration the bad conditions of sick detainees and elderly. They deprived us from the prison’s courtyard, smoking and clothes. They also confiscated razors and nail clippers and canceled the organizational representation. We were prevented from going to the prison’s clinic and having medication. The reality is more cruel”. The Commission warned of the continuation of this fascist hatred of the occupying state against our detainees, as it does not make sense to keep silent in front of this organized crimes, which reveal the real face of tge occupation’s gangs. The violations and crimes took place in Jelboa and other Israeli prisons, are an actual evidence of disappointment and subordination of the international system and its organizations. It is worth mentioning that Jelboa prison contains three sections and it is overcrowded, where torture and assault is practiced against detainees even before October 7, especially that this prison has witnessed the heroic escape operation, in which six detainees were able to flee and went around the lands of Palestine for many days before they got rearrested.

أفادت هيئة شؤون الأسرى والمحررين صباح الخميس، أن سلطات الاحتلال الإسرائيلي أصدرت (100) أمر اعتقال إداري (جديد وتجديد) بحق عدد من الأسرى لمدد تتراوح ما بين ( شهرين إلى ستة أشهر) قابلة للتجديد عدة مرات، وذلك خلال شهر تموز الماضي.
وأوضحت الهيئة أن الأسرى هم كل من:

Commission of Detainees’ Affairs publishes the details of detention and health conditions of detainee Tareq Abu Al-Rob

The Commission of Detainees’ Affairs stated in a report issued today that detainee Tareq Zeyad Abu Al-Rob, 23, from Qabatya/ Jenin, was shot in the abdomen during his arrest by special forces.
The commission’s lawyer quoted the detainee “the occupation’s forces invaded the house in 26/11/2023 and shot me with cold blood, I fell to the ground but they didn’t provide first aid and asked me to head towards them. They arrested me and transferred me to a hospital in Alkhdaira for one day, where I underwent a surgery in the urinary tract and a surgery in the intestines, I remained handcuffed to the bed, and then I was moved to Ramla prison, in which I remained 50 days. They didn’t provide me with medical care and gave me painkillers despite my severe pain”.
Abu Al-Rob was transferred to Megiddo prison in 16/1/2024, where he goes to the clinic on a regular basis and his health condition is stable.
He has a court hearing in 10/7/2024, and it is noteworthy that he is former detainee who spent two years in prison. His brother, Muhammad Abu Al- Rob is also a detainee who is sentenced to life imprisonment, detained since 2017 and currently held in Jelboa prison.

The Israeli authorities arrested (35) citizens from the West Bank, including former detainees and a woman from Bethlehem. Arrests were concentrated in Bait Fureek/ Nablus. Another detention cases were carried out in Jenin,Bethlehem, Hebron, Tubas and Ramallah, accompanied by torture, intense beat, holding people as hostages, in addition to house vandalisms.
The Commission and the prisoner’s club confirmed that the Israeli authorities pursued systematic detention campaigns as firm policy, which increased in the light of the mass aggression and genocide in Gaza ,afflicting all categories of the Palestinian society, including women, children and elderly, in addition to former detainees who served long years in Israeli prisons.
Thereby, (3290) arrest cases have been recorded since October 7, including those who were arrested from their homes, checkpoints and others who surrendered themselves under threat and held as hostages.

The Commission of Detainees’ Affairs warned of the escalated persistence of torture policy pursued by the IPS in dealing with male and female detainees, which turned their lives into hell, as they are isolated from the outside world and there are unprecedented penalties imposed on them.
In this aspect, the advocate of the commission cited the testimony of many detainees during a visit to Nafaha prison saying “ during waiting in the visit room, where there is a joint wall between it and the corridor of the prison’s rooms, I heard the sound of detainees who are getting tortured and beaten, as they are cursed by soldiers and forced to say obscenities and swear words. It probably comes from the place of holding detainees from Gaza.
The Commission pointed out that detainees’ conditions on Nafaha prison still the way it is, where sections and rooms in general look like cells, detainees do not have clothes or belongings, they have long hair and beards because the IPS confiscated razors since October 7. Each detainee has one mattress and cover, and they suffer from poor quality and quantity of food. Sometimes they remain fasting due to delay in serving food. There is power cut for long hours, and water is allowed for two hours per day. Sometimes water is not available for 4 days.”
The Commission indicated that the retaliatory and punitive measures against detainees are identical in all prisons, and the attack against them is escalated in the light of the international failure.
