Abu Al-Hummus: “Once Again… Ben-Gvir acts out his adolescence during his raid on the cell of detainee and leader Hassan Salameh”

Head of the Commission of Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs, Raed Abu Al-Hummus, today, Monday, condemned the international silence and failure to act regarding the practices carried out by the Israeli occupation against Palestinian male and female detainees, particularly by the hateful and extremist minister Itamar Ben-Gvir.

Abu Al-Hummus said: “The footage captured by the cameras of the police and prison administration documenting Ben-Gvir’s raid on the cell of the leader Hassan Salameh yesterday, Sunday, as well as the threats and intimidation issued by this extremist, and the arrogance and insolence he displayed while surrounded by his guards and prison officers, demonstrate that degradation and depravity have reached their highest levels.”

He added: “Where is the international community and its institutions? Have all international bodies lost their authority to address the Palestinian cause and the Palestinian people’s freedom fighters? Is what is being practiced inside prisons and detention centers not organized terrorism? How long will this crime continue to escalate before the eyes of this ineffectual world? It is time to answer all these questions clearly and acknowledge the state of abandonment that we are living through and being subjected to.”

Abu Al-Hummus stressed that such practices and assaults will not undermine the determination of our detainees and freedom fighters. However, allowing them to continue in this manner without the world taking action amounts to a green light and an official authorization to continue this criminal, racist extremism. While the Palestinian people are paying the price of this hateful occupation today, the world should be prepared to witness similar acts on its own soil and at the hands of the same group, because the Israeli occupation state and its tools pose a threat to the entire world.

It is worth noting that Hassan Salameh, from the Gaza Strip, has been detained since 1996. He was handed an unjust sentence of 48 life terms, in addition to 30 years in prison. He is among the detainees whom the Israeli occupation authorities have refused to release in all previous prisoner exchange deals.
