March 27, 2024
The Commission of Detainees’ Affairs stated that (188) Palestinian detainees are held in Itzion detention center, some of them are held since more than 40 days.
The Commission emphasized, according to advocate’s visit, that life conditions in the detention center are cruel and complicated, and there are new penalties and bad practices which coincide with the designation of a new Israeli officer as a supervisor to Itzion detention center. His arrival was accompanied by new retaliatory procedures and instructions.
The supervisor issued new decisions , including the prevention of detainees’ belongings and underwears, and reducing the amount of food. All of them suffer from constipation and were forced to drink hot water from bathrooms.
The Commission pointed out that the spread of diseases among detainees , such as eczema, acne and other dermatosis, occurred due to lack of hygiene, shampoo, soap and sanitizers, and the overcrowding had bad consequences in spreading infection between detainees.
The commission stated that the supervisor officer tried to disrupt the visit, as it was supposed to start the advocate’s visit at 12:00 pm, but it was delayed for an hour, claiming it time for soldiers’ lunch. The visit was conducted in a cold room, and detainees attended handcuffed.
